Fighting for the Vote

It was hard to make the women´s voice heard, but it wasn´t impossible, we had to do many things to make our opinion is taken into account,  women  like Lucy Stone became chairman of the executive committee and Elizabeth Cady Stanton served as the first president, this women fight for the human vote.
The struggle to win the vote was slow and frustrating but finally in these days we can vote.

It take long for  women to live with more just and equal rights and respect, but we still have much to do becausediscrimination still exists against women and that is something we have to stop, the machism is being very common, but together we can keep the change, first if we allow this type of situation nothing will change that is why we need to keep fighting for our rights and speak up for us to be heard.

During the 19th century women organized and participated in a great variety of reform movements to improve education, to initiate prison reform, to ban alcoholic drinks, and to free the slaves in the pre-Civil War.
At a time when it was not considered respectable for women to speak before mixed audiences of men and women. Many women supported the temperance movement in the belief that drunken husbands pulled their families into poverty. In 1872 the Prohibition party became the first national political party to recognize the right of suffrage for women in its platform.
Women were also active in movements for agrarian and labor reforms and for birth control such as Margaret Robins led the National Women's Trade Union League in the early 1900s.

Women have been growing because if we all join and participate we can make our voice heard, that our views and thoughts are taken into account, and thanks to the events that have happened and in which we participated we could make us notice.

Feminist Philosophies

At the end of the 18th century, individual liberty was being hotly debated. The feminist philosophies were changing a lot since 1789, during the French Revolution,when the Olympe de Gouges published a 'Declaration of the Rights of Woman' to protest the revolutionists' failure to mention women in their 'Declaration of the Rights of Man'.
Many feminists believed that a cooperative society based on socialist economic principles would respect the rights of women. The Socialist Labor party, in 1892, was one of the first national political parties in the United States to include woman suffrage as a plank in its platform.

During the early 20th century the term new woman came to be used in the popular press. Actually, the customary habits of American women were changing little. Although young people dated more than their parents did and used the automobile to escape parental supervision, most young women still married and became the traditional housewives and mothers.

Philosophy of women has changed a lot, we left behind the traditional in that we're supposed to dedicate one to the house, and now we have more ambitions like men, but IS not bad that even further while preserving the traditional habits.

Women in Politics

Since 1920 American women have had the right to vote but their political roles have been minimal. Not until 1984 Geraldine Ferraro of New York to run for vice-president, then many women started to participate in politics and increasingly higher positions such as in 1990 Mary Robinson was elected president of Ireland and Violeta Chamorro, of Nicaragua. Australia's first female premier was Carmen Lawrence of Western Australia (1990), and Canada's was Rita Johnston of British Columbia (1991).

Women have been able to reach high positions not only in the porlitic, but also in many other works, but I feel that we took a lot of time to grow because we haven´t relatively long time getting this kind of posts.

Women at Work

The women started to have better jobs such as doctors, lawyers, preachers, teachers, writers, and singers. By the early 19th century acceptable occupations for working women were limited to factory labor or domestic work. Women were excluded from the professions, except for writing and teaching.
At the past of the time the people realised that the women were very important for the jobs so they started to have better jobs, despite this working women often faced discrimination, specially the married women.
From 1960 to the early 1970s the influx of married women workers accounted for almost half of the increase in the total labor force, and working wives were staying on their jobs longer before starting families.Despite their increased presence in the work force, most women still have primary responsibility for housework and family care.

Opinion
Well I think that is very good that today the women have better jobs, but I think that we don´t have to forget our family the job is very important, but the most important is the family, we have to enjoy our children and we have to take a break after work, to have time with the children and our partner, we musn´t allow that our job consume all the time that we have, because we really not enjoy the live, so we have to stay in a job who have considerable hours to have time for the family.

The Legal Status of Women

The text is about how the women started to have equal rights and started to work, the history began in England that emphasized the principle of equal rights rather than tradition.Mississippi in 1839, followed by New York in 1848 and Massachusetts in 1854, passed laws allowing married women to own property separate from their husbands.
In the 19th century, women began working outside their homes in large numbers, in textile mills and garment shops.

During the 1960s several federal laws improving the economic status of women were passed. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 required equal wages for men and women doing equal work. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibited discrimination against women by any company with 25 or more employees. A Presidential Executive Order in 1967 prohibited bias against women in hiring by federal government contractors.

Until well into the 20th century, women in Western European countries lived under many of the same legal disabilities as women in the United States.

Only after 1920 was legislation passed to provide working women with employment opportunities and pay equal to men. Not until the early 1960s was a law passed that equalized pay scales for men and women in the British civil service.

The people realised that the women are capable enough and they have to have the same oportunities such as the men, because we have the same capables and we can do all kind of things that can do the men, so that´s because today we have equal rights but there is still a little discrimination in some jobs, specially for women and young people.

The Weaker Sex?

Women were long considered naturally weaker than men, traditionally the soacial role say that "a woman's place is in the home", , they have to make domestic labors, like clean the house, cooking, care the children and only stay at home while her husband returns from his work, but today the things have been changing, labor such as hunting and plowing were considered men labors, now the woman can do all those labors.
The woman´s education have been changing, and we don´t have the typical culture that we only can stay at home, we can do great things, we can study a carreer, have a job and traveling.
 In 1870 an estimated one fifth of resident college and university students were women. By 1900 the proportion had increased to more than one third.Women obtained 19 percent of all undergraduate college degrees around the beginning of the 20th century. By 1984 the figure had sharply increased to 49 percent. Women also increased their numbers in graduate study.

I think that the women were educated only to stay at home, cleanning, cooking and caring the children, these the only things that it´s suppouse they have to do but now we have been changing our mind and we have better goals to our live, we want to study, have a good job, and some of them do not even want to get married, but is not bad to knowing cook or make things to clean the house, although work is not suppouse that we have to be a dirty and lazy women.

In ancient India the women doesn´t have rights and can not decide who wants for marriage, but during the Middle Ages women enjoyed power and prestige.

I think that the women had made a lot of good things to our society, and that is because actually the women have rights and they are free to decide what they want.
In the past the women were treated very bad, but constantly we were growing in the society, for example we can participate in politic, and we can decide who want for marriage, but there´s still places like India where the women are treated very bad and I think that this is an injustice, the problem is that if the women doesn´t do something they will still treated bad.
